When do I book my session with you?
...For my newborn
I suggest booking your newborn session with me no later than 30 weeks, as I tend to book up two month in advance. If you leave it later or you've had your baby and decide you want photographs, please contact me anyway. It might be that I have availability due to a cancellation or a client has had their baby earlier than expected. If you contact me with your due date, I'll add your date to my schedule and once your baby makes it debut, we'll finalise a session date.
The best time to photograph a newborn is in the first 15 days of life. During this time babies tend to sleep longer and retain more of the natural curl from when they were in the belly. Once they reach 11 days old they also become more alert but this just means that your session may take a little longer. It is possible to photograph newborns up to 6 weeks old successfully but opportunities for a variety of poses will be more limited.
...For my baby or toddler
If you miss the newborn period, I'd recommend waiting for the next milestone at around 3 months when social smiling, giggles and sitting up independently is commonplace. Anytime from then that can make some beautiful pictures and if you wait until they find their feet as toddlers, we can have a lot of fun with more energetic and spontaneous photography.
The first year of your little one's life whizzes by taking with it incredible moments and developmental stages. If you want to capture the first year of your child, we do offer our 'Mini Milestones' package that includes your choice of three photo shoots over the course of 12 - 18 months. The package costs £230 - 300 (depending on if a newborn shoot is required) and includes a luxury 5"x7" print from each shoot or a discounted album/photobook (extra prints and products will be an additional cost).
Can siblings be included?
Absolutely! If you have other children that you want photographed with your newborn, or shot separately, please let me know beforehand. Your newborn or baby session is not just about them, but capturing your connection as a family.
Where will my session be held?
I have a mobile studio, so I bring everything to you. No need to worry about making yourself presentable after a sleepless night or rushing out the door for an appointment. All I need for your newborn session is a space by a window or patio doors in a warm room. For baby shoots, weather permitting, I'll often do part of the session in your home and part outdoor to give you the best variety of images. I never book more than one session a day, so we have plenty of time to make sure that you've got the beautiful memories that you'll treasure forever.
How long will the session take?
I'm not one to watch the clock; I'll give you all the time necessary to create images you'll love. However, on average, my newborn and baby sessions take 2 - 3 with extra time for setting up the shoot. Babies are so unpredictable so we work to their mood and schedules.
Are my images edited?
All the images I put in to your online gallery are carefully selected and edited. I spend at least 30 minutes, sometimes more, refining and retouching your photographs to ensure each one is beautifully finished. Only the best images make it in to your gallery and you'll often have multiple options, such as colour or black & white, to choose from.
Do you sell digital files?
Yes! When you buy one of my beautiful products, such as a framed 8"x12" print or album, you get the same image as a digital file for you to keep forever. If you spend £500 or more on products, you can receive all your processed print-ready digital files from your session on USB so you can make unlimited copies. I believe everyone is entitled to all their favourite pictures from the session, which is why I include the digital files with print products. While I do have a digital package, it's one of my highest priced because I want you to have prints that you'll cherish. I want you to enjoy your pictures time after time and the only way to really do this is through professional, timeless prints. So many people spend A LOT of money on professional photography, then either keep their images on their computer or send them through cheap high-street printers which won't do the images you that you've paid for. To make sure you receive the highest quality prints and products, I personally approve every order before sending them on to you (with a secret special thank you gift). I store my clients images for up to 24 months, so you can return at any time to purchase prints or obtain digital files.
What should we wear and have to hand for the shoot?
For most of your session, your newborn will be nude but if you have blankets or cuddly toys that you want included in some images please have them to hand. There will be time at the beginning of the session to discuss props and for you to choose colours and accessories. I also ask that mum and dad both have black tops at the ready too or are prepared to go topless (mum will be wrapped) so we can have skin-to-skin contact with your baby.
For babies and toddlers...
It's tempting to dress children in their finest for a photo shoot but we'll get far better images if your infant is happy and comfortable. There are a few things I'll ask you to avoid though: large logos, motifs and football shirts - they can be very distracting in an image. Have a few changes of clothes at the ready too, for variety, especially if we're meeting at a location other than your home. I'm happy to go through some options when I arrive at your home if you're unsure.
How do I pay and order my prints?
I ask everyone to pay for their session in full prior to their shoot, either via PayPal, bank deposit, cash or cheque, this way we don't have to concern ourselves with money on the day. About 2-3 weeks after your session, I will email you with a password for your private online gallery, accessible via my website. The online gallery remains active for 14 days. If you want to buy digital files, order prints or products you can do this directly via your gallery - there's a brilliant feature that will allow you to preview your image in your framing options before you buy; it's really fab! If, at any point, you encounter problems or simply want me to do it for you, do not hesitate to contact me and I'll be happy help at not extra charge.
Your orders can take between 2-3 weeks for delivery. All images will be stored and archived for no more than 24 months. Once the gallery has been closed after 14 days there will be a £25 fee to upload your gallery for an additional 7 days.
In the event of injury or illness, the shoot can be rescheduled but please get in touch with me as soon as possible. If you wish to reschedule on the day of the session, there will be a charge of £25. The session fee is non-refundable for cancellations, unless it’s extenuating circumstances.
